Cuti Romero Slips Away as Atlético Agree €40m Deal

Cristian Romero is closing in on a move to Atlético Madrid. Sky Sports reports that Atlético and Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle worth around €40 million including add-ons, with Spurs also securing a 15% sell-on clause. Mundo Deportivo has reported the same breakthrough in negotiations.

That effectively removes another centre-back option from Barcelona’s board. Romero had been linked with Barça during the summer and the Catalan club reportedly explored a late attempt to enter the race while Atlético were already negotiating with Tottenham.

This time there is no need for weeks of stories about patience, timing or waiting for the player to make the first move. Atlético negotiated with Spurs, found the number and got the deal to the finish line. Barcelona will have to look elsewhere.
