Luis suárez to Barcelona again? Not that one
Luis Suárez is back on Barcelona’s radar. Sounds familiar? Unfortunately for anyone already dreaming about the MSN days, this is not the Uruguayan who spent six years scoring goals for Barça. This time, it’s his Colombian namesake from Sporting.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Luis Javier Suárez is on Barcelona’s shortlist as one of the alternatives to Julián Álvarez. The Argentine remains the priority, but if that operation stays blocked, Barça could start seriously considering other options from next week.
So history might repeat itself, although someone changed the nationality along the way. The previous Luis Suárez arrived as one of the best strikers in the world and became a club legend. Now Barcelona are looking at another South American striker with exactly the same name. Position: correct. Name: perfect. The nostalgia department has done its job.
There is one small problem: Sporting have no intention of making things easy. Suárez is a key player for the Portuguese club, and Romano stresses that a potential deal would be difficult. For now, he remains an alternative. Barcelona are still waiting to see what happens with Álvarez.
