La Masia brings in €48.7m as Casadó could raise the total
La Masia graduates have reportedly generated €48.7m for Barcelona without bonuses. A possible Marc Casadó sale could increase the total.
La Masia was built to provide players for Barcelona’s first team. This summer, it has mainly been providing money. According to a breakdown published by Mundo Deportivo, academy graduates have generated approximately €48.7 million in transfer fees and sell-on payments, excluding bonuses.
That figure requires an important qualification. The reported moves of Álvaro Cortés to Royal Antwerp and Toni Fernández to Venezia have not yet been officially announced. Together, those two operations account for roughly €7.5 million of the total.
Ansu Fati and Tommy Marqués produced the largest individual fees, bringing in €11 million each. Héctor Fort’s transfer to Real Sociedad was valued at €8.5 million, while Ajax reportedly paid around €6 million for Jofre Torrents.
How Barcelona reached €48.7m
- Ansu Fati – €11m
- Tommy Marqués – €11m
- Héctor Fort – €8.5m
- Jofre Torrents – €6m
- Toni Fernández – approximately €4m, not yet announced
- Álvaro Cortés – approximately €3.5m, not yet announced
- Iñaki Peña – €3m
- Andrés Cuenca – approximately €700,000
- Dani Rodríguez – €600,000
- Sergi Altimira – €400,000 from a retained sell-on percentage
Barcelona have not surrendered complete control in many of these deals. Buy-back options and future sell-on clauses appear repeatedly. The club sold only 60 per cent of Fort’s rights, while the agreement involving Toni Fernández reportedly includes a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
It is a sensible arrangement if the players develop elsewhere. Barcelona receive money immediately while retaining a route to bring them back or earn more from a future transfer. That route will, of course, be more useful if the club can afford to activate its own buy-back clauses when the time comes. At Barcelona, even a plan designed to protect the future may eventually have to negotiate with the present.
Marc Casadó could still increase the academy’s total. Bayer Leverkusen and Beşiktaş remain interested in the midfielder, who was left out of Barcelona’s squad for their opening two league matches. His contract runs until 2028, meaning the club are under no contractual pressure to accept a low fee.
There is currently no confirmed agreement or accepted offer. Casadó nevertheless represents the biggest potential remaining sale involving a La Masia graduate before the transfer window closes.
The academy continues to produce players for the first team. This summer, it has also been working extensively for the club’s finances. The total stands at a reported €48.7 million, although part of that figure is still awaiting signatures and official announcements. Casadó could make the final number considerably larger.
