Real Madrid close their incoming window as Camavinga and Asencio face uncertain futures
Real Madrid are not planning further signings, but Eduardo Camavinga and Raúl Asencio could still leave before the transfer deadline.
Real Madrid are not planning any further signings before the summer transfer window closes. According to José Félix Díaz, the club consider their squad complete, although departures remain possible for Eduardo Camavinga and Raúl Asencio. The problem is straightforward: Madrid can open the door, but neither player is in a hurry to walk through it.
NO MORE SIGNINGS
Real Madrid do not intend to bring in any more players before the transfer window closes at midnight on Tuesday. The information comes from José Félix Díaz. It is not an official club announcement, but it supports the position José Mourinho had already expressed publicly.
“For me, the squad is closed,” the Portuguese coach said before the match against Real Sociedad.
Madrid have substantially rebuilt their squad this summer. Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Yan Diomande were among the arrivals. The club also signed 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martínez from Racing Santander, although he is initially expected to play for Castilla.
Mourinho had also wanted a defensive midfielder and a left-footed centre-back. Madrid pursued Rodri before he chose Barcelona, while Alessandro Bastoni was repeatedly mentioned as a defensive target. Neither operation will be activated before the deadline.
After a summer spent buying players, Madrid have reached the point where their most important remaining transfer may be not making another one.
CAMAVINGA IS NOT PUSHING TO LEAVE
Eduardo Camavinga remains one of the players whose sale Madrid were prepared to consider. The Frenchman has primarily been linked with Premier League clubs. Reports also suggested that Manchester United could submit an offer worth around €50 million, but that interest has not developed into advanced negotiations.
Camavinga has not requested a transfer and wants to compete for his place under Mourinho. He has appeared in all three of Madrid’s opening LaLiga matches, playing 112 minutes. He started once and came off the bench twice.
He has therefore not been completely removed from the team. At the same time, he faces competition from Federico Valverde, Bernardo Silva and Aurélien Tchouaméni in midfield. Madrid may listen to a sufficiently attractive proposal, but any move would also require the player’s approval. At present, that is the missing element.
ASENCIO ALSO WANTS TO STAY
Raúl Asencio finds himself in a similar position. The academy graduate is not high in the centre-back hierarchy, but he is also unwilling to give up the fight for minutes without trying.
Asencio has featured in two of Madrid’s opening three league games, spending 52 minutes on the pitch. The club remain open to selling him, although no proposal has yet arrived that could begin a concrete operation.
The 23-year-old defender’s position is understandable. He can seek regular football elsewhere or remain in Madrid and wait for an opportunity. The club would prefer the first option. The player has so far chosen the second.
THE EXIT DOOR REMAINS OPEN
Madrid have closed the window for incoming players but will continue to take calls regarding possible departures. Camavinga and Asencio are the leading candidates, although neither is currently close to changing clubs.
Only a substantial offer combined with the player’s approval can alter the situation. Until then, Madrid have a large squad, two players available for potential sales and very little time to find them new employers.
It is a pure deadline-day situation. The club consider their spending finished, regard sales as possible and must wait for the decisions of the players they are prepared to sell.
