Deco closes Barcelona’s transfer window: “There will be no more arrivals”
Deco has confirmed that Barcelona will make no more signings. Gabriel Jesus becomes the final addition to Hansi Flick’s squad this summer.
Barcelona have finished adding players to Hansi Flick’s squad. Deco confirmed the decision after Gabriel Jesus officially completed his move, delivering a short and definitive message: “There will be no more arrivals.” The Brazilian will be the club’s final signing of the summer.
DECO DRAWS THE LINE
Barcelona’s sporting director spoke after leaving Botafumeiro, where the club had organised a welcome lunch for Gabriel Jesus and his family. Reporters asked Deco whether another signing could still arrive before the window closed.
His answer left little room for another transfer saga.
“There will be no more arrivals,” Deco said.
The list of players linked with Barcelona this summer was considerably longer than the sporting director’s final statement. Julián Álvarez was among the club’s leading targets, but Atlético Madrid refused to open negotiations. Barça eventually moved for a striker who was available for a fraction of the potential cost.
GABRIEL JESUS COMPLETES THE LIST
Gabriel Jesus joined from Arsenal for a reported fee of around €10 million plus add-ons. The 29-year-old signed a contract until 2029 and becomes Barcelona’s final addition of the summer window.
The forward watched from the stands as Barça defeated Rayo Vallecano 5–2 without using a traditional number nine. His first evening at the club therefore delivered a fairly direct message: the number on his shirt will not automatically provide a place in the starting eleven.
Jesus can operate through the middle, move towards the wings and interchange positions with Barcelona’s other attackers. That versatility gives Flick another option, but the Brazilian will still have to earn regular minutes. Particularly if Raphinha maintains his current form.
NO FINAL SURPRISE
Deco’s statement means Barcelona are not preparing another last-minute addition. There will be no extra striker, midfielder or defender. The squad is expected to remain in its current form at least until January.
It also closes the summer chapter of Barcelona’s pursuit of Álvarez. The Argentine remained the club’s most prominent target for weeks, but Barça’s interest never changed Atlético’s position. The club have consequently moved from discussing a transfer valued at more than €100 million to signing Jesus for approximately one-tenth of that amount.
That does not necessarily make it a poor sporting decision. It certainly makes it easier to explain financially. At Barcelona, successfully combining those two considerations already qualifies as a fairly orderly end to a transfer window.
Deco has closed the door, with Gabriel Jesus the final player through it. The only remaining question is whether Barcelona have completed the squad they wanted or simply recognised the right moment to stop shopping.
