Jorge Mendes heads to Barcelona. No meeting yet, but the Balde storyline is ready
Jorge Mendes is reportedly travelling to Barcelona to discuss matters involving clients including Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal, but no club meeting is confirmed.
Jorge Mendes is expected to arrive in Barcelona today on a brief trip concerning some of his clients. Journalist Carlos Monfort identified Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal among the players whose situations are set to be discussed internally.
There is one important detail, however: no formal meeting with FC Barcelona has been confirmed. That has not stopped the speculation from moving faster than the agent’s plane, with Balde’s future immediately placed at the centre of the story.
BALDE IS STILL WAITING FOR HIS CHANCE
There are legitimate questions surrounding Balde’s sporting situation. The left-back has yet to play a minute this season, with Xavi Espart moving ahead of him in Hansi Flick’s plans. The presence of João Cancelo has also intensified competition for places in Barcelona’s defence.
Deco recently insisted that Balde still possesses considerable potential but must fight for his position. The sporting director also said the player had not expressed a desire to leave, while making it clear that selection decisions belong to the coach.
Those points matter. A lack of minutes does not automatically amount to a transfer decision, just as an agent visiting the city does not prove that negotiations have begun. In Barcelona’s media environment, though, those separate steps can quickly become one convenient storyline.
MORE THAN ONE CLIENT ON THE AGENDA
According to Monfort’s report, Mendes’s trip also concerns Lamine Yamal. Presenting the visit solely as an intervention over Balde would therefore go beyond the available information.
Mendes represents several players connected to Barcelona and regularly visits the city to manage their affairs. At this stage, the reported trip and the names mentioned by Monfort are the only concrete developments. Neither the club nor the agent has announced a meeting with Deco, Joan Laporta or Flick.
Balde’s future remains a subject of interest, but his immediate challenge is sporting rather than contractual: earning his way back into the team. Any confirmed meeting or change in the position of the player or club would represent a genuine new step. Until then, the arrival is real news; the ready-made conclusions are not.
