Barcelona linked with another striker as João Pedro wins Premier League award
João Pedro has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2026 after previously being linked with a move to Barcelona.
João Pedro has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August 2026 after recording two goals and two assists at the start of the season. The Brazilian had previously been linked with Barcelona, although Chelsea have already taken firm action to secure his future.
A FIRST FOR JOÃO PEDRO
This is the 24-year-old’s first Premier League Player of the Month award. He finished ahead of seven other nominees, including Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer, following an impressive opening month of the campaign.
João Pedro directly contributed to four goals and helped Chelsea collect important early victories. He is also the club’s first recipient of the award since Palmer won it in September 2024.
REPORTED INTEREST, NO CONFIRMED OFFER
Barcelona were credited with an interest in the striker during the summer, but there has been no confirmation of a formal bid or advanced negotiations. The distinction matters: appearing on a reported shortlist is not the same as being close to a transfer.
Chelsea responded to the wider speculation by extending João Pedro’s contract until 2034. The player publicly expressed his satisfaction with the agreement and his desire to continue at Stamford Bridge.
ANOTHER EXPENSIVE NAME ON THE LIST
The latest award strengthens João Pedro’s status at Chelsea and makes any future approach even more complicated. He is tied to a long-term contract, trusted by the London club and producing at a level recognised by the Premier League.
Barcelona can certainly admire the player. Turning that admiration into an actual transfer is a different task entirely. Once again, the scouting sounds convincing; the available route to completing the deal looks considerably less impressive.
