Barcelona prepare another round of Espai Barça financing as new bond issue goes to a vote
Barcelona will ask member delegates to approve increased Espai Barça financing and bonds secured by additional audiovisual rights.
FC Barcelona will ask its member delegates to approve an increase in the financing obtained for the Espai Barça project. The board is also seeking permission to issue bonds secured by additional audiovisual rights belonging to the club.
DELEGATES BRIEFED BEFORE THE VOTE
A face-to-face information session for FC Barcelona’s member delegates was held at the Spotify Camp Nou commercial office on Tuesday. Economic vice-president Ferran Olivé and institutional vice-president Elena Fort presented the main items that will be discussed at the upcoming General Assembly.
Delegates were given an opportunity to ask questions about the club’s accounts, the budget for the new season and the financing of Espai Barça.
The Assembly will take place online on Saturday, September 19. The first call is scheduled for 9:30am CEST and the second for 10:00am, with the Assembly Table based at Auditori 1899 inside the Spotify Camp Nou complex.
MORE FINANCING GOES TO THE ASSEMBLY
The most significant financial item is the fourth point on the official agenda. Barcelona will seek approval to increase the financing obtained for Espai Barça and to issue bonds secured by additional club audiovisual rights.
Neither operation has been approved yet. The official notice also provides no amount for the proposed financing increase and does not disclose the terms of the planned bond issue. The board is asking delegates for the authority to proceed.
The rebuilt stadium has repeatedly been presented as a major source of future income. For now, however, it continues to generate immediate funding requirements. At Barcelona, “financial stability” and “another bond issue” have once again found room on the same agenda.
RECORD REVENUE DID NOT PREVENT A LOSS
Barcelona previously announced that ordinary revenue had exceeded €1 billion for the first time. The figures presented ahead of the Assembly show revenue of €1.06 billion for the 2025/26 season and an ordinary operating profit of approximately €200,000.
The final result was less impressive. The club ended the financial year with a net loss of €18 million, with another impairment connected to the valuation of Barça Produccions contributing to the deficit.
For 2026/27, Barcelona are forecasting revenue of €1.195 billion. Salary costs are expected to reach €636 million, equivalent to approximately 53 per cent of projected income.
The numbers are certainly larger. The need to request further stadium financing shows that larger numbers do not automatically remove the pressure created by the project’s costs.
THE DELEGATES WILL DECIDE
The Assembly will also vote on the settlement of the 2025/26 accounts, the budget for the current season and the ratification of selected contracts and appointments to the board and Economic Commission.
Saturday’s vote will determine whether Barcelona can increase Espai Barça financing and issue bonds secured by more audiovisual rights. The club has not completed either operation. For now, the board is seeking permission to move ahead.
