Arda Güler named MVP after Real Madrid’s win at Elche
Arda Güler was named MVP after Real Madrid beat Elche 3-2. His direct free kick led to the opening own goal at the Martínez Valero.
Arda Güler was named Man of the Match after Real Madrid secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Elche. The Turkish midfielder was not officially credited with a goal, but his outstanding free kick produced the opening score and helped Madrid take control of the first half.
A FREE KICK THAT CHANGED THE GAME
In the 25th minute, Güler curled a left-footed free kick against the post. The ball then rebounded off goalkeeper Matías Dituro and crossed the line. LaLiga’s official match record therefore lists the goal as an own goal by the Elche goalkeeper.
That moment was only part of Güler’s contribution. Earlier in the game, his delivery created a headed opportunity for Dean Huijsen. He also remained heavily involved in Madrid’s attacking play and later released Vinícius Júnior during a quick second-half move.
GÜLER COLLECTS HIS SECOND MVP AWARD
José Mourinho replaced Güler with Jude Bellingham in the 68th minute. The match became increasingly chaotic after the substitution, with Elche scoring twice and eventually making it 2-2. Carlos Espí restored Madrid’s lead in stoppage time after an assist from Mbappé.
Despite the dramatic finish, Güler received the individual award. It was his second MVP honour of the league season, reflecting the growing importance of his creativity and set-piece quality.
ANOTHER STRONG CASE FOR MORE MINUTES
The award at the Martínez Valero provides further evidence of Güler’s development. He does not need to score in every appearance to influence a match. His vision, technical quality and ability to operate between defensive lines give Madrid an additional source of creativity.
Real Madrid recorded their sixth league victory, while Mourinho was given another reminder of the depth available in his midfield. Competition for places remains intense, but Güler continues to make a compelling case whenever he is trusted from the start.
