Barcelona watch as Inter act: Federico Dimarco could stay until 2030
Inter are preparing talks over a new Federico Dimarco contract until 2030. Barcelona have been linked with the player, but no bid has been confirmed.
FC Barcelona have been linked with Federico Dimarco, but the only concrete movement has come from Milan. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are preparing negotiations aimed at extending the Italy international’s contract until 2030. No agreement has been reached, although both sides reportedly want to continue together.
TALKS BEGAN IN MADRID
The first step was taken before Inter’s Champions League match against Real Madrid. Newly appointed sporting director Dario Baccin met Dimarco’s agent, Arturo Canales, at the team hotel. It was an exploratory conversation rather than a formal negotiating session, but the parties agreed to meet again.
Sky Sport Italia reported that more detailed discussions would take place in the following weeks. La Gazzetta dello Sport has now indicated that another meeting could be held within days, with Inter hoping to make swift progress.
There is no signature, completed agreement or official club announcement at this stage. What does exist is a clear intention from Inter to address the situation before one of their most important players moves too close to the end of his deal.
INTER HAVE PROTECTION BUT WANT A NEW DEAL
Dimarco’s current contract runs until 30 June 2027. Italian reports state that Inter also hold a unilateral option to extend it by another season on the existing terms. The club are therefore not facing an immediate deadline, but simply activating that clause would not offer the player the recognition he expected after an outstanding campaign.
The defender recently admitted that he had hoped contract talks would begin sooner. La Gazzetta dello Sport maintains that his comments were not a sign that he wanted to leave. Dimarco sees himself as an important Inter figure and reportedly wants his future settled so that he can focus entirely on football.
The proposed new contract would run until at least 2030. According to the Italian newspaper, negotiations will begin from his current salary of approximately €4 million net per season. Inter’s broader policy is to limit guaranteed salaries while making performance-related bonuses more significant.
BARCELONA REMAIN PART OF THE RUMOUR
Dimarco has been repeatedly linked with Barcelona and acknowledged that being associated with a major club was flattering. However, there has been no official confirmation of a bid, negotiations or an agreement involving Barcelona, Inter or the player.
That distinction matters. The Catalan conversation has once again travelled faster than the actual operation. Barcelona were credited with admiring an elite wing-back; Inter responded by arranging meetings designed to keep him for several more years. One club currently has a sporting director, an agent and a negotiating schedule. The other has another attractive name circulating around its media orbit.
Should Dimarco sign until 2030, any future transfer would become substantially more difficult and expensive. Inter would protect a key asset, while Barcelona could at least claim the familiar consolation prize of having helped another club accelerate its renewal plans.
