Elche publicly target Mbappé after his clash with Gonzalo Villar
Elche published pictures of Gonzalo Villar’s confrontation with Kylian Mbappé and added a pointed “Fair play” caption after the Real Madrid match.
Elche decided that the drama from their match against Real Madrid did not have to end with the final whistle. The club’s official account published two pictures of Gonzalo Villar confronting Kylian Mbappé, adding the caption “Fair play” and a rolling-eyes emoji. The message was a clear public jab at the Real Madrid forward.
A HEATED ENDING AT THE MARTÍNEZ VALERO
The incident took place during the closing stages of Madrid’s 3-2 victory. After Mbappé was fouled, he got back to his feet and approached Villar. The players argued and pushed each other, while the Elche midfielder was also seen grabbing the Frenchman by the neck.
Cadena SER reports that television footage shows Mbappé using insulting language during the exchange. Neither the player nor Real Madrid has issued a public statement about the incident. There is also no confirmed disciplinary case, so media interpretations should not be presented as a ruling from the competition authorities.
ELCHE TAKE THE ARGUMENT ONLINE
Elche returned to the confrontation on their official account the following day. There was no lengthy statement: two photographs, the words “Fair play” and one carefully chosen emoji were enough to make the club’s position clear.
The pictures, however, only showed part of the confrontation. Reports point to Mbappé’s angry words, but the sequence also included the foul and Villar’s hand around the forward’s neck. Elche selected the frames that best supported their message. Social media rarely waits for a replay from every camera when two images can generate a much louder reaction.
A GOAL, THREE POINTS AND AN UNWANTED AFTERMATH
On the pitch, Mbappé helped Madrid secure the victory. He scored their second goal after an assist from Yan Diomande, before Elche fought back to equalise. Carlos Espí then struck in stoppage time to give José Mourinho’s side a 3-2 win.
Mbappé therefore left the Martínez Valero with a goal and three points, but his clash with Villar gave the hosts another contest to play online. For Madrid, it is a reminder that every reaction from one of the team’s leading figures will be isolated, replayed and turned into a separate story.
