Galatasaray were ready to bid €50m, but Camavinga chose Real Madrid
Galatasaray were prepared to offer around €50 million for Eduardo Camavinga, but the midfielder wanted to remain at Real Madrid.
Galatasaray were prepared to spend around €50 million on Eduardo Camavinga during the summer, according to Matteo Moretto. The move did not progress because the French midfielder had no intention of leaving Real Madrid. Rather than looking for a more secure starting role elsewhere, he chose to compete for José Mourinho’s trust.
GALATASARAY HAD €50 MILLION READY
Speaking on Radio MARCA, Moretto reported that Galatasaray were willing to submit an offer worth approximately €50 million. The Turkish club had the financial capacity to pursue the transfer but first needed a positive response from the player.
Camavinga was not interested in moving to Istanbul. He wanted to remain in Madrid even though his position under Mourinho appeared uncertain at that stage of the summer.
There is no confirmation that Real Madrid received a formal written bid for €50 million. The report concerns Galatasaray’s willingness to make that offer, so it should not be presented as a proposal rejected by the Spanish club.
MADRID WERE WILLING TO LISTEN
Moretto also stated that Real Madrid were open to listening to offers for the midfielder. That did not mean a sale had been agreed or that the club would necessarily have accepted the figure Galatasaray had in mind.
Camavinga’s situation formed part of Mourinho’s assessment of the squad. The Frenchman was not guaranteed a prominent role, but he was given the opportunity to change the coach’s mind through his work in training.
Madrid were under no pressure to force a decision. Camavinga’s contract runs until 30 June 2029, leaving the club in a strong position. They could evaluate interest while allowing the player to earn his place on sporting merit.
CAMAVINGA WON MOURINHO’S TRUST
According to Moretto, Camavinga has since succeeded in gaining Mourinho’s confidence. That is the most significant development in the story. He did not simply remain because a transfer failed to materialise. His response in training and during the opening stages of the season reportedly improved his standing within the squad.
The midfielder has been included in Real Madrid’s official squad for the LaLiga match against Rayo Vallecano. He missed the Champions League victory over Inter through suspension but is available again for domestic competition.
Competition in Madrid’s midfield remains intense, and staying at the club does not guarantee regular minutes. Camavinga nevertheless preferred that challenge to a potentially more secure role with Galatasaray. Mourinho now has another valuable and versatile option available.
THE PLAYER STOPPED THE MOVE
Galatasaray may have had the money and Madrid may have been prepared to hear a proposal, but the prospective transfer required Camavinga’s approval. He made his preference clear before the situation could develop into advanced negotiations.
Real Madrid have consequently retained a 23-year-old midfielder who is tied to the club until 2029 and determined to compete for his place. If he continues to earn Mourinho’s confidence, Galatasaray’s planned €50 million approach will remain little more than a revealing detail from the summer transfer window.
