Mbappé responds to his critics: “A player who scores goals will never be a problem”
Kylian Mbappé has answered criticism of his team contribution after opening Real Madrid’s season with five goals in five appearances.
Kylian Mbappé has rejected the suggestion that his individual scoring record could have a negative effect on Real Madrid. In an interview with “France Football”, the forward addressed criticism of his defensive running, distance covered and overall contribution to the team.
He accepts that every part of his game will be examined. What he does not accept is the idea that scoring regularly can somehow become a problem for his side.
FIVE GOALS IN FIVE MATCHES
Mbappé has opened the season with five goals in five appearances: four in La Liga and one in Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Inter. Those numbers have not stopped the wider debate about his performances.
The Frenchman pointed out the contradiction. If he stopped scoring, the first question would be why he was not providing goals. When he does score, the discussion shifts towards the defensive runs he did not make or the kilometres he did not cover.
His response was direct: a player who scores goals will never be a problem for a team because no club can win trophies without finding the net. It is a simple argument, but football occasionally needs one. The objective remains to score one more goal than the opposition.
THE EXPECTATIONS NEVER FALL
Mbappé believes the scrutiny is partly a consequence of spending a decade at the highest level. His ability in front of goal is no longer treated as a surprise. People know what he can do, so attention naturally moves towards the parts of his game that can still be questioned.
He insisted that he does not take that process personally. Playing for Real Madrid guarantees constant examination, particularly for a forward expected to decide the biggest matches. Producing goals does not make him exempt from tactical demands, but neither should those demands erase his primary contribution.
Mbappé also made a distinction between constructive criticism and comments he considers less intelligent. He is willing to listen when an observation can help him improve. He will not allow outside noise to dictate decisions he believes are necessary.
HIS ANSWER COMES IN GOALS
The debate over Mbappé’s defensive work will continue, especially in a team coached by José Mourinho. Real Madrid expect every player to contribute when possession is lost, including their attacking stars.
That discussion can coexist with recognition of what Mbappé provides. Five goals in his first five matches represent a strong response from a player judged more severely than most. There are parts of his game that can be refined. Putting the ball in the net is not one of Real Madrid’s problems.
