Mbappé steps up his Ballon d’Or push as L’Équipe outlines his strategy
L’Équipe outlines Kylian Mbappé’s Ballon d’Or push as the Real Madrid forward builds his case around his scoring titles and World Cup record.
Kylian Mbappé believes he can win the first Ballon d’Or of his career and is making a clear case for the award. According to L’Équipe, the Real Madrid forward understands that goals alone may not decide the race. How a candidate’s season is presented and remembered can also matter during the final weeks before the vote is revealed.
This is L’Équipe’s assessment of Mbappé’s recent media activity, not confirmation of an organised campaign launched by Real Madrid or the player’s representatives. Mbappé has openly defended his candidacy, but no formal promotional strategy has been announced.
THE NUMBERS MAKE HIS CASE
Mbappé’s argument begins with his scoring record. He finished the previous campaign as the leading scorer in LaLiga and the Champions League. He also topped the scoring chart at the World Cup, where he became the competition’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals.
Speaking to France Football, the French captain said he did not believe any player had performed better over the season. He also stressed that the Ballon d’Or is an individual award.
That distinction matters because the lack of a major team trophy is the clearest argument against him. Real Madrid ended the assessed period without the biggest honours, while France were eliminated by Spain in the World Cup semi-finals. Mbappé is not attempting to rewrite that part of the season. His case is that an extraordinary individual campaign should still be recognised.
L’ÉQUIPE SAYS THE MESSAGE NOW MATTERS
L’Équipe reports that Mbappé knows the final weeks could influence how voters remember each candidate. The official assessment period ran from 3 August 2025 to 19 July 2026, so his goals at the beginning of the new season do not belong to the campaign being judged.
They can still keep his name at the centre of the conversation. Mbappé has already scored seven goals in all competitions this season. Every new finish reinforces the image of a forward whose standards have not dropped.
His public message has also remained consistent. He points to three top-scorer awards, his World Cup record and the individual nature of the prize. He has even admitted that he would vote for himself. There is little false modesty, but the confidence is backed by performances rather than empty slogans.
REAL MADRID DO NOT NEED TO INVENT A STORY
Real Madrid already have a compelling case to support. Mbappé delivered in Spain, in the Champions League and on the biggest international stage. The absence of collective silverware remains a legitimate weakness, but it does not erase the scale of his personal achievements.
The winner will be announced on 26 October. Mbappé does not appear willing to let other people define his season before then. He has the goals, the records and now a message built around them.
