Mourinho already sees Güler at a “top, top” level

José Mourinho is no longer speaking about Arda Güler only as a promising young player for the future. The Real Madrid coach believes the Turkish midfielder is already approaching the elite level, although he stopped just short of placing him in the highest possible category.

“I don’t want to go as far as saying top, top, top three times, but he can certainly be top, top,” Mourinho said during his press conference ahead of the match against Elche.

MOURINHO PRAISES GÜLER’S INFLUENCE

The Madrid coach was asked about Güler’s development and whether he had already reached the level associated with the club’s leading players. Mourinho noted that those who have worked with the midfielder since his arrival are better placed to explain his physical transformation.

His own assessment focused on Güler’s football. Mourinho highlighted the midfielder’s vision, decision-making, creativity, ability to organise possession and the stability he brings to the team’s play.

He also made it clear that goals and assists tell only part of the story. Real Madrid use more detailed internal analysis to measure Güler’s involvement and influence, and Mourinho described the player’s current numbers as highly encouraging.

ANOTHER STRONG RESPONSE AGAINST RAYO

The praise came two days after Güler made an excellent impact from the bench against Rayo Vallecano. Real Madrid had lost some control during the second half, but the Turkish international helped the team settle in possession and create further chances.

In stoppage time, Güler supplied the assist for Kylian Mbappé’s second goal, completing the 4–1 victory. His delivery from set pieces also caused problems for Rayo, while his passing gave Madrid more control during the closing stages.

He did not need to start the match to influence it. That has become one of the strongest arguments in his favour.

NO LONGER JUST A PLAYER FOR THE FUTURE

Mourinho has several high-level options in midfield, so the “top, top” label does not automatically guarantee Güler a place in the starting eleven. It does, however, confirm that he is no longer viewed merely as a long-term project.

Real Madrid have handled his development patiently. They now have a player capable of changing games from the bench and pushing established teammates for a starting role. The next opportunity may arrive against Elche, where the discussion will be less about whether Güler is ready and more about how much responsibility Mourinho is prepared to give him.
