Mourinho Finds a Playmaker in His Own Dressing Room. Trent Moves into Midfield
José Mourinho is looking for a way to improve Real Madrid’s build-up play — and he may have found one without ordering another bank transfer. According to Cadena SER, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given more responsibility for organising the play in training. The Portuguese coach is considering using him as an additional midfield option.
The idea also makes sense because Denzel Dumfries is being tipped to start at right-back. That could allow Trent to move higher or operate deeper in possession, focusing on what he has always done far better than watching the space behind him. For now, though, this remains an experimental option rather than a permanent positional change.
Thiago Pitarch is also expected to remain with the first team. The young Spaniard would give Mourinho another midfield solution alongside Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Valverde, Bernardo Silva and Arda Güler. Instead of simply waiting for the perfect midfielder to arrive, the coach is trying to get more from the players already available to him.
Will Trent suddenly become the new Kroos? Let’s not commission the Valdebebas statue just yet. The approach itself is sensible: examine the squad first and reach for the chequebook later. At least Mourinho is looking for answers on the training pitch rather than inside a boardroom presentation.
