Six Real Madrid players remain outside group training as Mourinho waits for returns
Real Madrid have started preparing for Wednesday’s match against Real Sociedad, but the list of players working separately has not become any shorter. Endrick, Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy, Thiago Pitarch, Rodrygo and Raúl Asencio are still training away from the group.
The team returned to Valdebebas after the 2–1 away victory over Espanyol. The players who started that match carried out off-ball recovery work, while the rest of the squad completed demanding drills focused on ball carrying, possession, pressing and finishing. The session ended with a series of practice matches.
Six players followed individual programmes. Real Madrid’s official training report did not provide new recovery dates or confirm their availability for Wednesday. Polish outlet RealMadryt.pl reports that all six are continuing their respective rehabilitation processes.
Rodrygo faces the longest road back. The Brazilian tore the anterior cruciate ligament and damaged the lateral meniscus in his right knee, with previous estimates suggesting that he may not return until 2027. Mendy, Militão and Asencio are also recovering from injuries suffered before the start of the season.
Thiago Pitarch remains unavailable due to physical problems, while Endrick suffered a minor muscular injury. José Mourinho confirmed his absence before the Espanyol match. The Brazilian once again worked individually, leaving his participation against Real Sociedad in doubt.
The positive development for Mourinho is Aurélien Tchouaméni’s return to normal group training. The Frenchman was left out against Espanyol because he was not yet ready to play, but he has now taken another step towards returning. His availability should become clearer after the final sessions before the match.
Madrid managed to win their league opener despite the long list of absentees, but Wednesday will provide a more serious test. Mourinho has an enormously deep squad and a bench worth more than the complete squads of several La Liga clubs. Even that cannot make six recovering players suddenly available.
The match against Real Sociedad is the postponed fixture from La Liga’s opening round. It will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday at 9:00 pm. For now, six players remain outside the group and Mourinho must wait to see whether any of them can rejoin full training before the squad is announced.
